And for the Superlative challenged on the Left,
This is... was... a Right-Wing Extremist:
I have this idea that's been drifitng across my neurons and it is hard to articulate. So I guess in the end it is best just to write it down without consideration of form and continuity. It has to deal with this intelligent design( ID for short ) thesis that is emerging since the attempt to sell creation science is turning to an abysmal failure and rightly so.
Personally I am an evolutionist as it seems to be the most plausible explanation for how life on this planet adapted to the changing environmental conditions. However, how life got here in the first place or for that matter how this universe got here are entirely different matters. Creationist theories deal with how it all got made; evolutionist theories deal with how it all managed to stay.
I admit I never gave much thought to ID because what little I've heard from the proponents I have just written off as an obvious absurdity but I really don't know what the tenets of the belief are.. so I queried the Google Oracle and this was the most authorative site that popped up first: Intelligent Design Network that explains ID in this manner:
"The theory of intelligent design (ID) holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause rather than an undirected process such as natural selection. ID is thus a scientific disagreement with the core claim of evolutionary theory that the apparent design of living systems is an illusion."
This particular quote, by happenstance, brings me exactly where I wanted to go with my suggestion that the nature of this theory is exactly what it accuses evolution of being... an illusion. Happy accidents do happen. Right conclusion, wrong approach.
Now to the gist of the argument. The human senses cannot be trusted. Our brains operate in a world of seeming chaos and from this the brain attempts to create order and it does so beyond our conscious capacity to control it. We know consciously that a pencil in a glass of water is not really bent but there is nothing we can do to tell our brain to quit interpreting the visual input as a bent object. So it is with many other observations in our world.
Here is a classic visual illusion: Look at the checkerboard. Is square A the same color as square B?
Despite the fact you can see block B copied and pasted to the left your brain will not accept them being the same shade on the checkerboard. Chaos is being misordered by your brain which attempts to interpret reality but only so far as a functional adaptation necessary at the moment. In the right sidebar of this page, way at the bottom, is this link Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena for more visual illusions and brain manipulation.
In a nutshell, we see intelligence in the order of the world because we are intelligent beings. Our brains induce intelligence into our every interpretation of the world around us and cannot perceive it in any other way than designed. So this theory of ID may be accurate in the conclusion that there seems to a unviversal design but its faulty reasoning is that this necessarily excludes the evolution of living things. It could be that evolution is part of that design since the key tenet of the theory of evolution is adapatation to a changing environment which is something we all see and do every minute of our lives.
Mr. Dean.... it was defeatist like you that bear the responsibility of those additional 25,000 deaths. Either Lead, Follow or STFU and let the grownups protect you.
"I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam. Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."
Stanley Tookie Williams is scheduled to die for executing 4 unarmed people. With his own execution, as determined by the people of California, weeks away the usual bleeding hearts are asking the governor to grant clemency. A pre-requisite for clemency should be whether the person has admitted remorse. Tookie has not.
Now I noticed that Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are among those believing Tookie is more valuable to our society alive as opposed to eliminated. OK so how about instead of full clemency we have a conditional clemency where Tim and Susan are appointed probational custodians of Tookie and confine him in their house for two years of house arrest. They advocate turning this monster loose on the rest of us so because he's rehabilitated so they should have no problem bringing him into their home. Then they could help him develop his literary career and community outreach programs to steer young people away from gang life in the urban jungle.
We should thank God every day that our ancestors were made of sterner stuff.
The American Spectator In Their Own Words
In the effort to alleviate the Democrats short-term memory loss there are two quotes from the article I would like to note. They are from the President of the United States outlining the threat:
"In the next century, the community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now -- a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists, drug traffickers, or organized criminals who travel the world among us unnoticed. If we fail to respond today, Saddam, and all those who would follow in his footsteps, will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council, and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program." (Bill Clinton, Remarks At The Pentagon, 2/17/98)
"Let's imagine the future. What if he fails to comply and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route, which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made? Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction. And some day, some way, I guarantee you he'll use the arsenal. And I think every one of you who has really worked on this for any length of time, believes that, too."
(Bill Clinton, Remarks At The Pentagon, 2/17/98)
Those two quotes clearly identify a grave and imminent threat to the national interests of the United States. So why did they choose to not act to eliminate the threat? Was 'containment', which is the international community losing its will to eliminate the threat, not allowing Saddam to fall into the reasoning pattern described by Clinton in the second quote?
Why, Mr. Clinton, after clearly identifying the threat, did you not eliminate it when you had the chance?
And now you run around saying things like THIS.
Building a better legacy, one lie at a time.
"My program for educating youth is hard. Weakness must be hammered away. In my castles of the Teutonic Order a youth will grow up before which the world will tremble. I want a brutal, domineering, fearless, cruel youth. Youth must be all that. It must bear pain. There must be nothing weak and gentle about it. The free, splendid beast of prey must once again flash from its eyes..That is how I will eradicate thousands of years of human domestication..That is how I will create the New Order."
-- Adolf Hitler, 1933.
"This message comes to you today from an old country, France, from a continent like mine, Europe, that has known wars, occupation and barbarity. A country that does not forget and knows everything it owes to the freedom-fighters who came from America and elsewhere. And yet has never ceased to stand upright in the face of history and before mankind. Faithful to its values, it wishes resolutely to act with all the members of the international community. It believes in our ability to build together a better world." - Dominique de Villepin 02/14/03Speech to the Security Council before Operation Iraqi Freedom
So Prince Charles is coming to America to lecture us on the merits of Islam is he?
You know I don't seem to recall any mass demonstrations in the streets lately of people chanting 'Death to Iran', 'Death to Pakistan', 'Death to Syria', 'Death to Egypt', Death to Jordan', 'Death to Indonesia', 'Death to Saudia Arabia'. I haven't seen the flags of those countries burned by Americans either.
I would suggest that perhaps he visit Deena Burnett and the kids to explain that Islam really means us no harm. If Ms. Burnett isn't available there are plenty of other families available across the nation that would be more than happy to discuss their experience with the religion of peace. Shouldn't have a problem finding them in New York.
I would suggest further that if he really wants to be affective that he take this same message to Tehran, Cairo, Gaza, Damascus, Islamabad, Lahore, Jakarta; perhaps even sit down and have an nice civil discussion with Zack the Hacker in Iraq or venture over to the cave in Pakistan or Iran that Zawahiri calls home.
But your royal highness, you are our friend and we will listen. Likewise you should listen to us and our thousands of stories of tragedy, of children growing up without parents, families destroyed in the name of this religion and maybe you'll get a grasp of our disdain for not only the lunatic fringe of the religion but also the meager apology from those that claim the jihadist don't represent the aspirations of the religion.
We Americans are a practical people and actions mean more than words. Let me acquaint you with a variation on one of our colloquialisms:
Islam Is As Islamist Do.Ask this little guy.
Ask the Russians in Beslan,
the people on the train in Madrid,
or the citizens living under Islamic law in Fallujah
Or for that matter, when you get back home lecture the victims of the London bombings on the merits of this religion you so admire.
Here's another colloqialism that you, a sporting fellow, might relate to:
"You're barking up the wrong tree pal." Islam is a cancer on humanity and non-agressive tactics are not going to stop it. It requires some agressive radiological treatment.
"Wilson tells Bradley, contrary to reports that many knew Plame was in the CIA, that only he and three other people knew. 'Well, very few people outside the intelligence community [knew she was CIA]. Her parents and her brother, essentially,' says Wilson."
In case you only get your news from the MSM, Daly Show or Bill Maher and you want the facts on the Plame/Wilson/Rove/Bush Lied fiasco Andrew Walden over at Moonbat Central links to a piece that explains it step by step without a word wasted.
'Progessives' should read this, after all aren't they open to new ideas and ways of seeing things?
