U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's administration will offer Israel a "nuclear umbrella" against the threat of a nuclear attack by Iran, a well-placed American source said earlier this week. The source, who is close to the new administration, said the U.S. will declare that an attack on Israel by Tehran would result in a devastating U.S. nuclear response against Iran.
So essentially once we see Tel Aviv destroyed Israel can rest assured that we will kill the people that killed them. But Iran will have accomplished it's goal. To me a more rational position is to tell the killer that if you even arm yourself we are going to kill you before you can kill others. That was only half of the potential dying will have taken place.
The thing Obama apparently doesn't have the capacity to understand is there is no deterring those bent on suicide to accomplish their goals.
Image where we'd be if Hussein ( Saddam not Obama ) were still in power and had the last 5 years to re-constitute his weapons program. Whoever thought of taking him out had a very prudent long-term strategic vision.
